Does Anne Frank count? Or do diarists not count as authors?

The following website details the origin of the word "author" http://www.word-origins.com/definition/author.html and states that is is the "originator" or "creator" of the work. Although I only read the first sentance as I'm dashing out to breakfast at Cafe Barun!
